Dear friends, welcoming visitors into our churches is a sacred duty. Christ clearly taught us to love our neighbors, welcome strangers, and care for those in need. When newcomers come through our doors, we must make them feel at home.
Smile warmly as you greet them. Introduce yourself and spend a few minutes getting to know them. Kindly answer any questions they have and offer to sit with them during the service. Small gestures of friendship put people at ease. Consider the story of Lydia welcoming Paul and Silas into her home. Though strangers, she showed them generosity. We ought to follow her example.
After the service, check back in on visitors. See if they have any other questions or concerns. Let them know about any upcoming events they might enjoy. And don’t forget to invite them back next Sunday! It often takes multiple visits before someone feels totally comfortable. Persist in hospitality just as Aquila and Priscilla persistently mentored Apollos in the faith.
In the following days and weeks, continue reaching out. Call or send a quick note to tell visitors how nice it was meeting them. Recommend small groups or service opportunities suiting their talents and interests. Help newcomers connect deeper into church community. Just as Peter insisted that Cornelius and his company be welcomed as brothers in Christ, so too should we embrace visitors as family.
Dear friends, now let’s see the Bible scriptures below that talk about “welcoming visitors in the church”.
