Dear friends, stubbornness is a sin that the Bible warns us strongly against. When we are stubborn, refusing to listen to wisdom or turn from our ways, it is like witchcraft – we are under a spell of pride and self-will.
The story of Pharaoh in Exodus shows how dangerous stubbornness is. Though Moses performed miraculous signs, Pharaoh hardened his heart and refused to let the Israelites go. His stubbornness led to terrible plagues in Egypt. Even when given the chance to repent, Pharaoh stubbornly chose his own way.
We see this too with Saul, Israel’s first king. Though anointed by God, Saul disobeyed and stubbornly did things his own way. He refused godly counsel. As a result, Saul lost God’s blessing and another was anointed king in his place.
Friends, let us beware of stubbornness. It leads only to pain and loss. When faced with wisdom or correction, let us have soft hearts ready to hear and turn from our wrong ways. God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. The wisdom from above is open to reason and full of mercy. As we walk in humility and faith, avoiding stubborn pride, God will lead us into blessing.
Dear friends, now let’s look at some Bible verses below that talk about stubbornness.
