Dear friends, the cares and pleasures of this world can often distract us from what is truly important. When we fill our lives pursuing wealth, possessions, status, and entertainment, we leave little room for nurturing our relationship with God.
It’s easy to get caught up in chasing bigger houses, faster cars, more exotic vacations. We think these things will make us happy, but in the end they leave us empty. The same is true of seeking popularity or influence over others. At times we are tempted to compromise our values just to gain wider acceptance.
Rather than focusing so much energy on material things, we would be better served tending to things of the spirit. Simple acts like helping others in need, spending quality time with loved ones, praying and reading scripture. This is what fills the wellspring of the heart.
The world tells us to put ourselves first. But as people of faith, we surrender to God’s will rather than our fleeting desires. When we seek first His kingdom and righteousness, miraculous things can happen. Our vision expands and our lives take on new meaning.
Now let’s reflect on some bible verses that warn against becoming distracted and losing sight of what God has asked of us.
