Dear friends, A father’s love for his daughter is a precious thing. From the moment she is born, he feels a deep sense of protection, joy and responsibility in caring for this new life. As she grows, he delights in getting to know her unique personality and talents.
The Bible gives fathers beautiful examples of how to cherish their daughters. Fathers like Jairus humbly bring their sick daughters to Jesus for healing. Others, like the persistent widow, advocate tirelessly for their daughters’ wellbeing. Still others, like King David, mourn deeply when their daughters face trauma and grief.
As a father, I must reflect the patient, selfless love of God in how I treat my daughter. This means listening more than lecturing, affirming more than criticizing and sacrificing my comfort to ensure her needs are met. It means valuing her opinions, even when they differ from mine. It means pointing her to Christ not only in word, but with my own life lived under His lordship.
The rewards of loving my daughter in these ways are incalculable. The privilege of guiding her through life’s challenges, rejoicing with her in its blessings and seeing her mature into a godly woman of strength and kindness bring me profound joy. My prayer is that my imperfect but sincere love will help set her on a path to embracing her identity as a precious daughter of her heavenly Father.
Now let’s explore some biblical accounts of fathers who dearly loved their daughters.
